Michigan Mechanical Inspectors

Built on Expertise.
Committed to Michigan.

MIAM and MMIA exist to elevate the professionalism, education, and communication of mechanical inspectors across the state — protecting public safety one inspection at a time.

MIAM Michigan Inspector Association of Mechanical

MIAM is a statewide organization serving mechanical inspectors, building officials, contractors, utilities, and related industry professionals throughout Michigan. Through continuing education, code training, and networking, MIAM supports inspectors at every level of experience and jurisdiction.

MMIA Michigan Mechanical Inspectors Association

MMIA serves Region 9 in southeastern Michigan, providing localized support, education, and community for mechanical inspectors and affiliated professionals in the metro Detroit area and surrounding communities. MMIA works in close coordination with MIAM on statewide initiatives.

Vision

Where we are headed

A Michigan where every mechanical system — from the home furnace to the hospital’s HVAC — is inspected by a knowledgeable, respected professional, and where inspectors are recognized as essential guardians of public health and safety.

  • The preferred professional home for Michigan’s mechanical inspectors
  • A model for inspector associations nationwide
  • Inspectors who are valued partners to builders, officials, and the public
  • Seamless adoption of new codes as they are adopted statewide

Values

How we work

  • Public Safety First — every decision is measured against its impact on the people inspectors protect
  • Professional Excellence — we hold ourselves and our members to the highest standard of knowledge and conduct
  • Integrity — honest, transparent, and consistent in all that we do
  • Community — inspectors grow stronger by sharing knowledge and supporting one another
  • Continuous Learning — codes evolve; so do we
  • Accessibility — education and resources should be available to every member, regardless of jurisdiction size
Our Background

Decades of Serving Michigan’s Inspectors

MIAM was founded by working inspectors who recognized that the profession needed a dedicated statewide voice — one that could advocate for practical, consistent code adoption, facilitate training that went beyond the minimum, and connect inspectors across Michigan’s diverse jurisdictions.

MMIA grew from that same spirit, providing focused support in southeastern Michigan where the density of commercial and residential construction demands an especially active inspector community. Together, MIAM and MMIA have provided hundreds of continuing education hours, sponsored industry conferences, and helped thousands of Michigan professionals maintain and advance their licenses.
